Committed to carving a new niche within Kansas City’s already crowded and internationally recognized barbeque scene, the owners of Char Bar developed a restaurant concept inspired by the 1950s backyard cookout. To complement an award-winning family-style food and drink menu, they designed a gigantic fenced-in community space. Astroturf, yard games and fire pits effectively create a suburban oasis in the midst of an urban entertainment district.

CREATE

To flesh out Char Bar’s identity system, we drew from advertisements that adorned the fences of ‘50s-era minor league baseball stadiums. We created a series of simple badge logos and supported everything through a vibrant color pallet and graphic iconography. The result is a warm and welcoming restaurant experience that caters to an unrushed, uncomplicated pairing of food and fun with friends.
